From time to time, you might want to generate "conventional music notation." Perhaps you want to create a "Lead Sheet" or maybe you need a flute part to give to a session player. Go to www.noteflight.com and register for a FREE account. All you need is an email address. This will allow you to log in and work with Noteflight anywhere you can get online (home, school, etc.). When you create your Noteflight files, choose to SHARE them (use the "Sharing" Tab). This will allow me to open them up at school so I can help you with your music.
Noteflight is very intuitive an there is excellent directions at the site (click on the "Help" Tab). I believe you will do most of your work in Noteflight using a small number of keys and commands, however:
Click on a measure where you want to begin entering notes or rests.
You could click pitches on the staff, but I recommend you use the QWERTY keys to enter notes (i.e. press the C key to enter the note C). If the C is in the wrong octave, use your keyboard's ARROW KEYS to toggle it up or down.
As soon as you begin entering notes, a palette of rhythmic durations appears. You could choose rhythms from there, but I recommend you use the bracket keys [ or ] to shorten or lengthen rhythms. Either way, CLICK THE NOTE FIRST, then CHOOSE THE RHYTHM for the note.
Use the space bar to enter a rest (or to convert an entered note into a rest).
Use the DELETE key to remove notes.
To enter CHORDS, click on the note to which the chord symbol will be attached, and type Control-K. A blinking cursor appears. Type in your chord symbol (i.e. Cmin7, F7, etc.)
To change TIME SIGNATURE, double-click on the current time signature and use the dialog box that opens to select the new time signature.
To change KEY, IF there is already a key signature, double-click on the current key signature and use the dialog box that opens to select the new key. IF the key is currently NO SHARPS/FLATS (C major/A minor), you will need to use the Score Menu command "Change Key Signature."
Measures are automatically entered as you need them, but if you like you can float your cursor over the top/right of the last measure and click on the "+" sign that appears.
To playback your file, click the PLAY BUTTON on the lower/left. To playback from a specific measure, float your cursor over the measure and click the PLAY BUTTON that appears there. To STOP, click anywhere on the page that is not a measure.
